Brown Bread

How It's Used

“A marvel of indolence-inducing heft, the ‘fry’, or traditional Irish breakfast, is both savory and very filling.  The basics:  bacon, pork sausages, white pudding and black pudding (both oatmeal based, the latter with pig’s blood added), fried eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, brown bread, sometimes baked beans and/or fried potatoes, always hot milky tea or even a glass of Guinness. Slainte!”

—no author, “Yet Another Irish Gift to Civilization,” Saveur, Jan/Feb 04, p. 74.
