20-20-20 Rule

How It's Used

“The best, most immediate solution for eye strain is much simpler:  Make sure you look away from the computer from time to time.  Dr. Kramer [director of comprehensive ophthalmology at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta] cites a ’20-20-20’ rule:  Look away from the computer screen every 20 minutes and focus on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.”

—Betsy McKay, “Shedding Light on Eye Strain,” The Wall Street Journal, September 2, 2003, p. D2.
