The Magnificent Seven

"The Magnificent Seven" is a Western released in 1960 that was directed by John Sturges, who also directed the films "The Great Escape" (1963) and "Gun Fight at the O.K. Corral" (1957).  The film was based on Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's "Shichinin no samurai" ("The Seven Samurai").

The film has three sequels—"The Return of the Seven" (1966), "Gun of the Magnificent Seven" (1969), and "The Magnificent Seven Ride!" (1972)—as well as a television series—"The Magnificent Seven"—that ran in the United States from 1998 to 2000.  There is rumored to be a remake starring George Clooney to be released in 2011.
