“Shichinin no samurai ^[15]” is a samurai film released in 1954 that was directed by Akira Kurosawa, who also directed such films as “Rashomon ^[16]” (1950), “Yojimbo ^[17]” (1961), and “Ran ^[18]” (1986). It is consistently ranked among the best films of all time and has influenced many directors and writers over the years. Most directly, the film was remade as “The Magnificent Seven” (1960), a Western that was directed by John Sturges.
