The Four Canopic Jars Posted August 7, 2009 @ 4:42 pm In Four,Numbers | No Comments Canopic jars were used by ancient Egyptians in the mummification process to store one of four internal organs: the intestines, the liver, the lungs, and the stomach. In addition, each of the four jars were associated with a god, a cardinal direction, and an animal.

Did you know? In the movie “The Mummy” (1999), canopic jars play a crucial role in the plot, but the moviemakers get a crucial point wrong when they have five canopic jars.
