Seven-Layer Bars

Posted April 7, 2010 @ 8:46 pm In Numbers,Seven | No Comments

1 1/3 cups of graham-cracker crumbs (about 8 sheets)
½ cup of butter, melted
1 can (14 oz.) of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup (6 oz.) of semi-sweet chocolate chips (half of a package)
1 cup (6 oz.) of peanut butter or butterscotch chips (half of a package)
1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts
1 cup of shredded coconut

Pre-heat oven to 325°F.

Combine the graham-cracker crumbs and butter. Pat mixture into a 9 x 13 pan. Spread in layers: first the sweetened condensed milk, then the chocolate chips, next the peanut butter or butterscotch chips, then the nuts, and finally the coconut. Do not mix or stir the ingredients. Put into oven and bake for 25 minutes. Let cool completely and then cut into bars.

Yes, yes. It is not quite seven layers as the graham-cracker crumbs are mix with the butter. However, if you are a real stickler for this kind of thing, simply pour the melted butter into the 9 x 13 pan first and then press into the pan the graham-cracker crumbs. This should turn out pretty much the same except that the crust won’t be as nice.
