Vote of No Confidence

How It's Used

“Congress has to save the Justice Department, something President Bush shows no interest in doing. It should pass a resolution of “no confidence” in Mr. Gonzales, and push for his removal.”

—unsigned editorial, “Why This Scandal Matters,” The New York Times, 21 May 07.

"Calling the use of the dollar as the world's benchmark currency "a rare special case in history," Zhou urged the "creative reform of the existing international monetary system towards an international reserve currency." Zhou said the reserve currency, managed by the IMF, should be "disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run." Talk about a vote of no confidence on the future of the U.S. economy!"

—John Pomfret, "The End of Dollar Dominance?," The Washington Post, 23 Mar 09.

"For months, there have been rumblings about a parliamentary move against Maliki. His advisers are said to have opposed Samarraie's election as speaker, fearing he might command the numbers necessary to win a vote of no-confidence against Maliki."

—Nada Bakri, "In Iraq, Assertive Parliament Emerges Under New Speaker," The Washington Post, 27 May 09.
